Started as a Smokehouse. Grew Into a Full Catering Operation.
Our Backyard BBQ started as a straightforward smokehouse restaurant on South Albion Street in Amherst — slow-smoked meats, scratch-made sides, and a commitment to not cutting corners. That reputation built quickly, and so did the requests to bring the food to events.
The catering side grew organically. Corporate clients who ordered lunch weekly started asking about company events. Families who became regulars wanted the same food at their celebrations. We listened, built the capacity, and formalized what was already happening.
Today we handle everything from 15-person office lunches to large wedding receptions. The food hasn't changed. The brisket still takes 12–14 hours on the smoker. Every sauce is still made from scratch. Every side is still prepared the day of your event.
Standards We Don't Compromise On
Food Handler Certified
All staff hold current Nova Scotia Food Handler Certification. Our commercial kitchen is fully licensed and inspected.
Temperature Control
Commercial chafing equipment and insulated transport boxes keep hot food hot and cold food safe from kitchen to table.
Our Own Team
Our own vehicles, our own staff. We don't subcontract delivery or setup. You know exactly who's showing up.
Early Arrival Policy
We arrive 60–90 minutes before your event start time to ensure a complete, unhurried setup before guests arrive.

Our base is Amherst, NS. We serve any event within a 2-hour drive — covering Cumberland County, Springhill, Oxford, Parrsboro, Truro, and across the border into New Brunswick including the Moncton area.
A $75/hour travel fee applies to all services except Pick-Up, included transparently in your quote.
